This was an excellent and gripping story that left me breathless at every turn. As a native of Silicon Valley who spent summers at my grandfather’s cabin on US 50 west of Echo Summit, this novel had the best of both locales.

Having spent many summers since the 1940s bumming around Lake Tahoe and camping in the surrounding wilderness, I get shivers as I read the descriptions in Borg’s books. This particular book was outstanding in character descriptions, plot, and background information.

A shoutout to the Red Hut diner: If you are in South Tahoe, be sure to grab a breakfast to remember at this institution. It’s a hut and it’s red.

Go buy this book if you enjoy taut stories in interesting locations.

**And thank goodness that the Caldor Fire didn’t reach the lakeside communities. Thanks to all the tireless work by the firefighters and support personnel who fought all the CA fires this year. My heart goes out to all who lost their homes or businesses along US 50 between Pollock Pines and Meyers.☕️
